City of Saline Sells Trolley Tracks Unearthed During Construction

It is now possible to purchase a piece of history from the days of Saline’s Interurban trolley, “Old Maude.” During the reconstruction of Michigan Avenue, workers found sections of cast iron track from the Old Maude line.

One foot sections of the track are available for sale at City Hall for $25. Much of the cost is to pay for workers from the Department of public works to pound off the concrete that the tracks were embedded in and to cut the sections with a torch. The remainder of proceeds will be applied to the downtown streetscape project.

The supply is limited and the old Saline souvenirs will be sold on a first come first serve basis. It’s a great way to commemorate Saline’s sesquicentennial.

"Old Maude" is the nickname for the electric trolley that ran on Michigan Avenue for about 25 years in the early 20th Century.
