Softball: Saline Pounds 33 Runs in Sweep of Pioneer

Saline swept a doubleheader from Pioneer, 19-8 and 14-9, to improve to 11-4 in the SEC Red and 15-5 overall.

Saline pounded 16 hits in the 19-8 victory called after 4 ½ innings due to the mercy rule.

Katherine McCollum went 4-for-4 with a homerun, four runs scored and seven RBI. Amanda Enners was 3-for-4 with two homeruns and four RBI. Olivia Darmos was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI and four runs scored. Brooke Bauer, Kelsey Alexander and Anna-Jo Stuart also each had two hits, with Bauer hitting and double and scoring four runs and Stuart and Alexander driving in one run and scoring two runs each. Saline was down 8-3 when they blew up the game with a 10-run inning.

Emily Baldus was the winning pitcher. She went five inning and gave eight runs, just one earned, on seven hits and three walks. She struck out four.

The second game followed a similar path.

Saline was down 8-1 in the third when the team erupted for eight runs in the third to take the lead.

Alexander sparked the offense. She went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, a double and four stolen bases. Bauer was 2-for-4 with two doubles three RBI. McCollum went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and RBI. Enners was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Darmos (double), Cameron York and Kelsey Leppert each had a single and RBI. Ashley Heren singled and scored.

Pioneer got to Baldus for seven runs, six earned, in 2 1/3 innings. McCollum earned the win in relief. She allowed six hits and two unearned runs in 4 2/3 innings. She struck out five and walked none.

Saline hosts Chelsea Tuesday.
