Get involved in Art Around Saline

The Art Around Saline project, organized by the Saline Arts and Culture Committee, is beginning its seventh year of supporting local artists through displays of public artwork throughout the city of Saline – and it needs your help!

The project is seeking volunteers to help organize the program, donations from the public and new host building locations to continue this successful public art display.

1. Volunteers are part of the Art Around Saline Task Force, which meets virtually once a month. They help with organizing submissions and the jury process, creating promotional materials and installing the art on local buildings. Time commitment varies, but is typically only a few hours a month. In high need are skills in graphic design, marketing and framing/installation. Volunteers need not be a resident of Saline nor a member of the Saline Arts & Culture Committee to participate.

2. Donations are a critical part of continuing to display a selection of high-quality artwork reproductions throughout the Saline area. The funds are used to help with promotion and production costs, as well as to provide a stipend for the selected artists. Donors are recognized in promotional materials and on the website, with Signature Sponsors who donate $1000 or more being acknowledged permanently on a plaque accompanying the art. Donations of any amount can be sent via check payable to "Art Around Saline" and sent to Saline City Hall, 100 N Harris Street, Saline, Michigan 48176.

3. As the project grows every year, so does the need for new locations to host the artwork. Art is hosted downtown for two years, then relocated to another public building in the Saline area. The project is currently seeking hosts for artwork selected in 2020 and 2021.

If you are interested in any of the ways mentioned, please contact co-chairs Jennifer Judge Hensel (jjudgehensel@gmail.com) or Tamara Moore (tamamoo@gmail.com). Our Call for Artists for 2023 is opening now, and we want to be fully prepared to welcome artists and steward their art.
