Golf Outing Benefits SPD Program That Helps Kids Steer Clear of Drugs

Residents can support a program that teaches Saline Area Schools students how to steer clear of drugs, violence and gangs.

The 18th Annual Saline Police Department D.A.R.E. golf outing takes place at 8:30 a.m., Sept. 9, at Rustic Glen Golf Course.

Cost is $110 per golfer or $440 per foursome. Participants will get 18 holes of golf, a continental breakfast, lunch and a prime rib dinner at Mac’s Acadian Seafood Shack.

Golfers will also have the opportunity to win a new lease vehicle from Bill Crispin Chevrolet.

Corporate packages, which include sponsoring a hole and four golfers, are available for $600. Participation is limited to the first 28 four-person teams who are paid in full.

Organizers are also looking for sponsors. For more information call Officer Dave Ringe at 429-7911. Anyone wishing to donate prizes for a raffle or auction is asked to call Lori Seeger at 429-1241.

Each year, Officer Ringe teaches the DARE curriculum to hundreds of fifth grade students. The Saline Police Department and Saline Area Schools also partner to teach a program to pre-school students and eighth grade government students. The SPD also assists with Safety Town, Halloween safety lessons, and the Students Against Destructive Decisions 24-hour relay challenge.
