Man Ticketed For Catching Too Many Fish

A 63-year-old Ann Arbor man was taken into police custody and ticketed after catching too many fish at Mill Pond Park July 20.

A Saline police officer was on duty at 3 p.m. in the park when a man ran up to police patrol car and told the officer a man had fished far more than the 25 fish limit posted on a sign along the river.

Police made contact with an Asian American man who spoke no English. The man continued to walk away as the officer asked questions so the officer handcuffed the man until police could identify him and speak to a family member. Police were able to contact the man’s daughter by calling a list of numbers the man gave police.

In the meantime, police found a bucket containing about 100 fish – 75 more than the limit. The officer released the fish into the river, estimating that about a third of them swam away while the rest didn’t survive. A conservation officer arrived. The Ann Arbor man was ticketed and released.

Son Allegedly Stole Dad's Checkbook, Wrote Checks

The Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized three complaints against a Clark Street man who allegedly stole his father’s checkbook and wrote a check to pay off debts. His father called police to report his son stole a business check and wrote one to a drug dealer. He said he told alleged drug dealer to come to his business and pick up the money. He advised police to be there when the dealer arrived.

Instead, the owner of a local cleaning service arrived and told police that the 23-year-old Clark Street man worked for the service and wrote a $100 check to pay back an advance on a paycheck. The suspect told police he stole the check from a book bag in his father’s business and said he’d stolen and cashed checks in the past, according to the report. The prosecutor’s office authorized complaints for forgery, uttering and publishing and larceny in a building.

Stolen Purses Found

Three local women have their purses and belongings back thanks to an observant employee of a local restaurant.  Only July 14, a 48-year-old woman was throwing trash out in the dumpster behind Gabriel’s when she spotted a purse the dumpster and called police. Police recovered two other purses in the dumpster. All three had been taken by someone who smashed windows out of vehicles parked at Brookside Golf Club that same day. The property was returned to the women.

Another woman reported that her purse was stolen by someone who smashed a rear side window. This incident occurred July 14 near Teft Field and the Saline Rec Center.

Man Ticketed for Urinating in Public

A 22-year-old Howell man was ticketed for urinating in public at 12:30 a.m. July 20. Police spotted a parked vehicle after hours at Village Party Store, 813 W. Michigan Ave., and then saw a man urinating near the side off the car. The man said he and his passenger were waiting for friends and on their way to an event at Michigan International Speedway.

Bicycles Found

A man on the 1100 block of Colony Drive found two bicycles in his yard about 6:30 a.m., July 19. One of the bikes was a purple BMX Highlight. The other was a green  Schwin Miramar.
