West Bloomfield Woman Killed on I-94 in Pittsfield Township

A 45-year-old West Bloomfield woman was killed in on I-94 in Pittsfield Township Friday morning.

Michigan State Police report that the woman was driving a 1997 Cherokee west in the right lane on I-94 when she began to brake and swerved to the right to avoid a rear-end collision. She lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road on to the right shoulder and flipped over several times before coming to a rest in the middle of west-bound I-94 near Ellsworth Road.

The driver and a 45-year-old male passenger from Detroit were transported by Huron Valley Ambulance to the University of Michigan Hospital. The driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The name of the driver is being held pending notification of family.

The passenger is being treated for injuries that are not life threatening, according to the Michigan State Police.

The crash shutdown west-bound I-94 and caused jams along Michigan Avenue.

Michigan State Troopers were assisted by Huron Valley Ambulance, Pittsfield Township Fire and Police, and Washtenaw County Road Commission.
