Candidates for Saline City Council Must File By Aug. 6

City of Saline voters will elect three members to city council in November.

Candidates must file nominating petitions and other qualifying documents with the city clerk's office by 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013. Petitions are available at city hall, located at 100 N. Harris St.

The terms of Linda TerHaar, Jim Peters and Jim Roth expire at the end of the 2013. All three were elected during a four candidate race that included John Heller.

TerHaar, a retired librarian first appointed to council in 2010, has pulled a petition and plans to seek re-election.

"I gave it a lot of thought. I don't have a specific issue or an agenda. My commitment is to having the city be well run, be financially stable, and be open to change and new development," said TerHaar, who is Mayor Pro-Tem this year. "In almost three years on city council I've learned an enormous amount. I would like to continue putting that to use for the good of the city."

Roth and Peters have not yet determined if they will seek re-election. Peters, an engineer, was appointed to council in 2011 to replace Pat Ivey. Peters elected a couple months later with 775 votes.

Roth, a retired school teacher, was elected in 2011. He received 925 votes, 150 more than the second place finisher.
