Harvest Time on Rentschler Farm Features Music, Theater and Gardening Tips

Saline Area Historical Society will host Harvest Time at Rentschler Farm Museum, 1265 E. Michigan Avenue, one mile east of Downtown Saline. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m., Oct. 4.

Entrance Admission: $1 Adults; Children Free. Admission includes all activities and entertainment. Families can ride on the old tractor-drawn wagon, see the live pigs, sheep, chickens, and geese. We will also have a visiting new-born calf.

Members of The Saline Area Players will perform Country Hoedown Jamboree at 1:00 and 3:30 in the Upper Barn Theater.

An Ensemble from Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic will entertain on the cement paddock outside the lower dairy barn at 2:00.

See Robert Wittersheim demonstrate how cedar shakes are split with a froe and then tapered on a shaving bench for an old time roofing material. Ted Micka, the Barn Doctor, will be on hand to tell about his work preserving barns. Robert Love, a flint napper, will show how to create arrowheads and more.

Vendors Janet and Noel Brown will have their delicious hand crafted candy and beautiful bird houses.

Master Gardeners Kathy and John Bauman and Geraldine Peters will answer gardening questions at their booth in the garden area.

This is just a sampling of demonstrations and exhibits. Additionally, old time children’s games will be played on the front lawn. Tours will be offered within the 12-room farmhouse, and all the buildings will be open with historical society members ready to great visitors.
