Saline Resident Punches Out Machete-Wielding Man from York Township

Saline Police are seeking a warrant for the arrest of a 33-year-old York Township man accused of attacking two Saline men with a machete around 2 a.m., Aug. 13 on the 400 block of North Maple Road.

A man and his friend were drinking beer on the porch when the York Township man walked by a couple times before stepping onto the resident’s doorstep. When the resident asked the visitor what he wanted, the stranger produced a machete, according to the report. The resident pushed the visitor back into the street and pursued him as he backpedaled. According to the report, the man swung the machete at the second man, also a resident of the 400 block of North Maple Road.

One of the men sidestepped the attack, grabbed the man under the arm and threw him to the ground. The man was on top of the attacker and punched him until he lost consciousness and the second man was able to remove the machete from his grasp, according to the report.

The man who punched the machete-wielding suspect was visibly upset, police said. He told police “he had to protect his family,” who was in his residence. The second man injured his hand getting the machete away the alleged attacker.

The York Township man, who was transported to the University of Michigan emergency room for treatment his injuries, told police he was out for walk when he was jumped by the two men. He said he carried the knife for protection.

The other men were transported to St. Joe’s injuries. One of the men suffered a one-inch laceration to his midsection.

Police seized the machete.
