Memorial Services for Edna Laughrey Saturday at First United Methodist Church

Edna C.Laughrey, age 71, a resident of Brecon Village, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at the University of Michigan Hospital.

She was born Nov. 29, 1940 in Great Falls, Montana, the daughter of Howard Ammi and Kathryn Hawes (Tyler) Smith. She graduated from Adrian College in 1961, and married Earl G. Laughrey on June 22, 1962. Her first job was as a teacher in the Manchester School District, a position she left in order to attend Library School at the University of Michigan. She was employed as a librarian at the UofM Library until the time of her retirement, when she established Laughrey and Associates, a company which represented book publishers. She was a past member of the Saline District Library Board and founded the Friends of the Library organization. She was also active in the Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild and had been a member of the Saline First United Methodist Church since 1967.

Survivors include two brothers, Howard A. (Elaine) Smith, Thomas Y. (Nancy) Smith and beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her husband Earl and her parents preceded her in death.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Saline First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. James E. Tuttle and the Rev. Laura Speiran officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church, to the Saline District Library, or to Adrian College. Envelopes will be available at the Church. Friends may begin calling at  1 p.m.. until the time of service at 2 p.m.. A reception at the church will follow the service. Arrangements entrusted to the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline.
