Saline Battles Back to Win Milford Maverick Volleyball Tournament

With the exception of North Farmington, the competition at Saturday’s Milford Maverick volleyball tournament presented little challenge to the Saline Hornets.

And when North Farmington issued the challenge, the Lady Hornets rose to the occasion.

In the championship match, Saline fell to North Farmington 25-21 in the opening game.  The Lady Hornets bounced back to win the second game 25-19. Saline sealed the victory with a 17-15 victory in the deciding game.

“I'm really proud of the girls today. They played under some challenging conditions and responded really well,” said Lisa Shea, head coach of the Lady Hornets. “It's not easy to win these tournaments. And I think it was a great test of how tough we are, the way we battled back in the finals.”

Saline swept Waterford Kettering (25-16 and 25-14) and Grosse Pointe South (25-18 and 25-17) in pool play before splitting with North Farmington (25-16 and 22-25)

In the quarterfinals, Saline defeated Farmington 25-8 and 27-25. In the semifinals, Saline ousted Stoney Creek, 25-16 and 25-19).

Kenzie Shand led Saline both kills and blocks, with 43 and 14, respectively. Kara Rogers (28 kills and 18 digs) and Ani Agbabian (19 kills and 16 digs) had solid all-around efforts. Jess Wolma (16 kills) and Margo Main (16 kills and nine blocks) also contributed at the net. Taylor Whitling had 131 assists. Natalie Sheridan had 46 digs.
