Tim Austin, Secretary of the Saline Board of Education, told The Saline Post Friday he was seeking re-election.
The deadline for filing is Tuesday. The election is in November.
Austin said he submitted his paperwork to the county Friday after spending time talking to friends and family and praying.
"This is where I have been led," Austin said. "The last couple years our district has faced some challenges and it has been trying at times. More difficult work is ahead of us as a community and a district. We have also been a district that through these difficulties continues to do a lot of good work."
Austin said that sometimes in life, the most difficult work is the most meaningful work.
"I love our community, our schools, and our students. It is not the right time to turn and walk away," he said.
Austin was first elected to the board in 2014. He and his wife are raising two children who attend Saline Area Schools.
Austin is President of A&H Lawn Service, a local small business he started with a partner after graduating from Saline High School.
Austin said he was running for a four-year seat. There are two four-year seats and one six-year seat.
Austin and Board President Heidi Pfannes are running for four-year seats along with Tom Frederick, Jennifer Miller and Brad Gerbe - all educators or retired educators.
So far, Board Vice President Paul Hynek is the only candidate for a six-year seat.
The Saline Post also learned Monday Aramadie Pinheir-Boatswain has filed to run for the Board of Education. It's not clear which term she's seeking.
