Heads up, drivers. There are more changes in store for your commute.
Monday night, Saline City Council approved Saline Main Street's plan to turn a portion of the 100 block of South Ann Arbor Street into a full-time business recovery zone. Starting at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, South Ann Arbor Street will be closed to through traffic from Michigan Avenue until halfway to Henry Street.
The goal is to give the restaurants and businesses more space for dining and shopping as they operate under state-ordered social distancing guidelines.
The plan allows for limited curbside parking and curbside pickup closer to Henry Street. There's also a turnaround spot (between Salt Springs Brewery and Cobblestone Rose).
The program could last until Oct. 31, when a Governor's order regulating recovery zones expires.
The city has not yet announced a detour plan.
SPD Chief Jerrod Hart and City Manager Mike Greene worked with SFD Chief Craig Hoeft and DPW Director Dan Bennett to pull together traffic controls, parking, curbside and access information with an amazing response time to this crisis measure -- and for that we and the businesses along S Ann Arbor are grateful! The detour route for S Ann Arbor is as follows --
