Pittsfield Township has received $20 million to improve Michigan Avenue between Platt and Carpenter roads, according to a news release issued by the township Friday.
In 2022, MDOT will construct a five-lane cross-section and an eight-foot multi-use paved shoulder. The bridge at the US-23 interchange will be replaced and constructed with right-turn lanes, a 10-foot multimodal pathway and new interchange ramps.
Pittsfield Township Supervisor Mandy Grewal said she's been advocating for the improvements since 2010 and said she is "extremely thankful for the many local, regional, and state partners whose cooperation has finally made the much-needed improvements on Michigan Avenue in Pittsfield Township a reality."
MDOT finalized and announced the funding for the project this week, according to the press release. A public engagement meeting is expected in November or December.
Glad to see investment. Additional lanes do bring additional traffic (evidence shows this ) as it invites more development and pushes officials to rezone for revenue. This will cause additional start/stop and additional traffic signals on this roadway, a heavy commercial truckway. It may create more noise for the surrounding area. I offer an alternative which sounds scary but I challenge folks to think about the overall effect and what it may mean for travel, noise, pollution, commerce and growth. http://cgseller.blogspot.com/2016/03/us12-saline-innovation-proposal.html
