Saline Area Schools to Introduces Re-Open Plan at Special Board Meeting Wednesday
The Saline Area Schools district will introduce a revamped re-opening plan at a special Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m., Wednesday.
The public is invited to participate in the meeting, which will be held over Zoom. (Log-in information below).
The plan has evolved since Superintendent Scot Graden previewed parts of it during a Facebook Live video last week.
During the video, Graden said all students would begin remotely. Parents would be asked to choose between going back in-person or online, and that sometime in late September, in-person class would re-commence for the first time since schools were closed by COVID-19 in March.
The plan drew criticism from some parents, who thought it was too much to ask parents in August to choose between online and in-person school. The district is now going to attempt to honor parents' requests to change from online to in-person at the end of a trimester - if staffing models will allow it.
Here's a timeline of the revamped plan:
- Aug. 5, 6 p.m., District unveils re-open plan at the Board of Ed meeting.
- Aug. 6-9 - Parents answer survey and choose between online and in-person class.
- Aug. 31-Sept. 3 - No School for students. Teachers and staff begin building prep for distance learning and return to school.
- Sept. 8-25 - All students participate in online classes.
- Sept. 29-Oct. 9 - Students who chose in-person class begin hybrid instruction with rotating days in the classroom.
- Oct. 12 - 5-day-a-week in-person class begins.
