A Review of the August Primary Election

Here's a quick review of local August primary election races.

York Township

In York Township, all the races were Republican primaries. Chuck Tellas was unchallenged at supervisor. There was a race for clerk. Incumbent Mitch Gasche defeated Miha Todd 743-217. One of the closest contests of the night was the Trustee race. Incumbents Derek Stern and John Hargrove led with 562 votes. Also elected were Jason McGovern (539) and Sean Gleason (486). Gleason bested Jeff Fordeck by just 10 votes. Adam de Angeli finished with 355 votes. Sally Louis won for treasurer. There are no Democrats headed for the ballot in November.

Pittsfield Township

In Pittsfield, almost all the races were on the Democratic side of the ticket.

Supervisor Mandy Grewal appears headed for re-election. She defeated Christina Lirones 6,080 to 1,976. In the treasurer's race, incumbent Patricia Tupacz Scribner won, 5,160-2448 over Feliziana Meyer.

Four trustee candidates moved on to the general. Three of the four are incumbents. Linda Edwards-Brown (5,500), Yameen Jaffer (4,529) and Gerald Krone (3,418) were re-elected. Andrea Urda-Thompson (3,062) took the fourth spot. Janet Neveaux was 62 votes back in fifth. Incumbent George Ralph finished with 2,918 votes. Three other candidates finished in the distance.

Michelle Anzaldi was unchallenged for clerk.

Lodi Township

The races in Lodi Township were all on the Republican side of the ticket. Supervisor Jan Godek defeated challenger Matthew Cauley, 503-259. Clerk Christina Smith, Treasurer Michelle Foley and Trustees William Lindemann, Donald Rentschler, Jacob Schaible and Craig Swenson were unchallenged.

Saline Township

All of the Saline Township board candidates were Republican. They were unchallenged, including Supervisor Jim Marion, Clerk Kelly Marion, Treasurer Jennifer Zink and Trustees Robert Marion and Tom Hammond.

County Commission

Caroline Sanders won Democratic Party race for County Commissioner District 4 with 4,293 votes. Darcy Berwick was second (1,779) and Daryl Campbell (1,762) was third.

In County Commission District 3, we'll have a race in November. Incumbent Shannon Beeman was unchallenged. But in the Republican primary, Ken Siler defeated Jacob Ehrman, 2,000 to 1,655.

County Clerk

Incumbent Larry Kestenbaum cruised to victory in the Democratic primary with 49,711 votes. Doristeen Taylor was second with 12,767 votes.

Gary Greiner was unchallenged in the Republican primary.

Prosecuting Attorney

In one of the biggest county races, Eli Savit won the Democratic Primary for County Prosecuting Attorney. Savid finished with 41,673 votes. Arianne Slay finished with 35,380 votes. Hugo Mack finished with 5,504 votes.

Sheriff

Sheriff Jerry Clayton easily won the Democratic primary, defeating challenger Ken Magee, 59,675-19,082. There was no race on the Republican side.

Judge

In the non-partisan race for Washtenaw Circuit County Judge, Tracy E. Van den Bergh (28,515) edged Nick Roumel (27,524) and Amy Reiser (24,309)

State Representative

State Rep. Donna Lasinksi was unchallenged on the Democratic side in the 52nd House District. She'll face Greg Marquis, who defeated Melanie Weidmayer, 4,848-4,099, in the Republican primary.

Felicia Brabec won the Democratic primary four House District 55, defeating Stephan Kurant, 17,871-2,622. She'll face Republican Bob Baird in November.

US Congress

Incumbent Debbie Dingell was challenged in the Democratic Primary for Michigan's 12 District by Solomon Rajput. Dingelll won, 51,614-15,275. Jeff Jones was unchallenged on the Republican side. In the Michigan 7th, Incumbent Republican Tim Walberg and Democratic challenger Gretchen Driskell were unchallenged.

Proposals

Saline Township voters renewed their road maintenance millage, 429-175.

The county conservation district millage proposal passed, 79-870-24,991.

The county proposal for non-motorized paths passed, 80,416-24,581.
