CORONAVIRUS: Health Department Issues Warning Ahead of Holiday Weekend as Case Count Rises

The Washtenaw County Health Department urged residents to be vigilant about COVID-19 over the holiday weekend as local case counts appear to be rising. The health department issued the warning on its Facebook page, saying there were 12 new confirmed cases yesterday and 30 over the weekend. 

"Yesterday we reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 in Washtenaw County. We had nearly 30 newly diagnosed cases over this last weekend. In early June, we were only seeing a couple new cases of COVID-19 on average each day," the post said. "Recent cases are younger and reporting more contacts through social gatherings with friends and family."

The post also reminded people about safety measures, including social distancing, face coverings and hand washing.

There has been one new death since Monday's data was updated, bringing the total number of deaths in Washtenaw County to 105. The number of hospitalizations remained at 380.

Since Monday's report, there have been 24 new cases, bringing the total to 1,493. The number of recoveries is up by 12 to 1,277.

The number of cases in Saline's 48176 zip code has increased by three to 79.

Michigan reported four new coronavirus deaths, bringing the total to 5,951.

The CDC reported 560 new deaths. The total now stands at 127,999.
