Maureen F. (Buell) Freeland, died on Wednesday June 3, 2020 at the age of 98. She was born in West Allis, WI, on May 17, 1922, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Gallagher) Buell.
She grew up in Kenosha, WI and attended St. James Catholic School in Kenosha and graduated from Holy Child High School in Waukegan, Illinois.
She married her husband John (US Navy 1944-45) and lived fifty-six years with him before his death in 2001. Together they raised seven children; Michael (Judy) Massillon, Ohio, Marye (Don) Defiance, Ohio, James (Patricia) Spicer, MN, John (Leslie), Blissfield, MI, Marty (Sharon), Whitmore Lake, MI, Robert (Karen) Jackson, MI, and Thomas, Ann Arbor, MI. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
Maureen and her husband enjoyed dancing and enjoyed visiting Lake Geneva in Wisconsin and attending social events with many friends. She was first and foremost a mom. She will be remembered for her love of her children and family, holiday gatherings, as well as family reunions at Mullet Lake in northern Michigan.
Maureen enjoyed interior decorating and shopping for antiques. She was also an accomplished artist, painting in still life, landscape and primitive styles. Later in life, she became an avid reader of novels, especially the works of John Grisham.
The family wishes to thank Lenawee Medical Care Facility, Adrian, MI for their care and compassion the past three years, as well as Father William Ashbaugh and Deacon Tom Loewe, of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, MI, Ann Arbor, and Father Mike from St. Mary’s Church in Adrian, MI for their spiritual guidance and sacraments.
Maureen was preceded in death by her husband John, her sister in-law Jane Feeland, Kenosha WI, her brothers, Robert Buell of Kenosha, WI and Dennis Buell of Greenville, OH.
At her request, cremation has taken place with arrangements by Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home, Saline, MI. Memorials in her honor may be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Ann Arbor, MI or St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Adrian, MI. Maureen left our world on June 3, but has already returned as an angel, where her memory, love and guidance will be present among those she loved.
