Meet Zach Sabin: Defensive End for the Saline Football Team

Senior Zach Sabin is the most experienced member of the defensive line. He emerged as a force last year playing defensive end on a line that surprised everyone. Beyond speed, quickness and toughness, he’s providing leadership to help this year’s promising defensive line be all it can be.

Sabin has 6 tackles - including four in the backfield, so far this year. Last year he made 31 tackles and had 11 for a loss.

Meet Zach Sabin:

Parents: Tammy Culver and Greg Sabin
Grade: Senior
Position: Defensive Line
Years Varsity: 3 (2 starting)

What I love most about Hornet Stadium: The energy from the student section and the band.
Favorite football moment during the week: The first snap on defense, because all of our preparation throughout the week is over and I can finally compete against someone wearing a jersey different than mine.
This season so far: I’d rather be 3-0 than 2-1, but I think we’re starting to fire on all cylinders as a team. We’re growing a lot. Our offense is clicking and our defense is playing well, but we need to cause more disruption in the backfield. I’m feeling very confident about the rest of our season, and I’m excited to get into SEC Red play.
Key to beating Huron: 1 on 1 battles. Huron has a lot of athletes on their roster and a lot of height as well. The key to winning on Friday is winning our important matchups and not giving up any big plays.
Give me a scouting report on you:  I’m fast, physical, and I play smart. I can play all 4 positions on the defensive line and usually rotate around given the down and distance.
Gameday mentality in one word:  Prepared.
Underrated player on the team:  Joe Raupp - He’s only a sophomore, but what he lacks in size, he makes up for with speed, technique, and his work ethic. Definitely someone you’ll be hearing a lot about in the future.
Funniest guy on the team:  Carter St. Lawrence
Song you’re listening to these days:  OTW by Khalid
Favorite ice cream:  Chunky Monkey

Favorite class:  Anything related to math and science
Other sports:  Wrestling
College plans:  I’m currently uncommitted, but I plan on playing football and studying chemical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.
