McClelland Decides Against Seeking Re-Election, Petition Deadline 15 Days Away
Saline City Council will have at least two new faces when it sits down in January.
Councillor Heidi McClelland announced on Facebook Sunday that she would not seek a third term.
"After much thought and deliberation I have decided that I will not seek re-election to serve as Saline City Councillor this November. The environment on Council has become increasingly negative and while I feel it is my duty to bring a rational, positive voice, I simply must put my family first this year," McClelland wrote. "I look forward to perhaps serving again in the future. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and I have truly found it a privilege to serve the City of Saline."
Councillor Linda TerHaar, who has served has Mayor Pro-Tem the last two terms, has also decided against seeking re-election. Councillor Jack Ceo is the only incumbent seeking re-election.
There are several other contenders.
Jim Dell'Orco, a fixture in the council meeting audience over the last year, was the first candidate to submit his nomination petition to Clerk Terri Royal. Brian Cassise has also filed his petition.
Jeff Shier, Jeff Weiss and Kevin Camero-Sulak have also pulled petitions.
The deadline for filing is July 23.
