Saline and Skyline entered Tuesday's contest as the only undefeated teams in the SEC Red. Saline had ties with Skyline and Huron, while Skyline's only blemish was the tie against Saline.
Skyline clinched the SEC Championship Tuesday night by defeating Saline, 3-0.
From the outset, it was clear the Hornets were just trying to contain Skyline and perhaps catch Skyline on the counter. But the Eagles dominated possession time.
Still, early in the game, it seemed like Saline's strategy might work. While Skyline was dominating the play, it was Saline with the game's first dangerous scoring chance. Sophomore Lauren Rubin sprinted up the right wing, curled and then centered to sophomore Libbey Hansen. The Skyline keeper made a good save on Hansen to keep the game scoreless.
Moments later, Skyline finally got the dangerous chance it wanted, and it beat Saline's keeper Brenna Crawford with an uncontested shot just over her fingertips. The Eagles added two goals in the second half.
