Saline’s varsity baseball team defeated Huron, 8-1, Tuesday, at Saline High School. In winning their 12th straight game, Saline improved to 16-3 overall and remained unbeaten in the SEC Red, with an 8-0 record.

Senior pitcher Logan Evans started and won for Saline. He went five innings, allowing a run on two hits and two walks, while striking out six. Jacob Whitley pitched perfect inning of relief, striking out three. Jack Plumley also pitched a perfect inning – getting three fly balls in the seventh.

Lead-off hitter Noah Nelson went 2-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and four runs. Nelson stole three more bases. On the game, Saline stole 10 bases. Brad Baldus and Bobby Butler each swiped a pair. Logan Evans (1-for-3) and Aidan Corrigan (2-for-4) each drove in two runs. Ryan Steinhauer doubled for Saline’s only extra base hit.

Coach Al Zeiher said the team was once again the beneficiary of solid pitching and defense.

“One thing that’s been consistent all year is our pitching and defense. Our pitching’s been really good. They give us a chance to win every night out and our guys in the field have done a great job. That gives us a chance,” Zeiher said. “When our bats aren’t necessarily clicking, our pitching and defense give us a chance to win.”
