Macon Township Considers Plans to Reopen Boysville Campus for Educational Bootcamp for Non-Violent Offenders

Plans to convert the former Boysville campus, in Macon Township, to a rehabilitative bootcamp for non-violent criminals are the subject of a public meeting planned for Wednesday evening.

The Saline Post learned of the meeting late Tuesday evening from a concerned Clinton resident. It takes place at 7 p.m. at the Macon Township Hall, 8320 Clinton-Macon Road, Clinton. According to a notice on the Macon Township website. “All persons having questions regarding this organization and its intended use of the facilities are invited to attend, and ask questions.”

The campus is located at 8744 Clinton-Macon Road, just past Macon Highway, about 15 minutes southwest of Saline.

According to the Tecumseh Herald, Boysville closed in 2014 after 66 years of operation. It began as a boarding school for troubled Catholic boys. Holy Cross Children’s Services ran several programs, including residential services, foster care homes, substance abuse treatment and supervised independent living.

According to an article on Oakland County-based Downtown Publications, former Wayne County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Ralph Kinney is behind Wolverine Campus Project, an “academic boot camp designed to divert short-term offenders from prison to a secure, on-campus, 24/7 desidential private facility.” The boot camp would provide education and career training.
