Downtown Business Broomball Event Features Adult Tournament, Kids Playtime
There’s no Winterfest this year, but broomball will return to downtown Saline as a standalone event on Jan. 26.
The Downtown Business Broomball event is being organized by Paul Geragosian, owner of Brecon Grille. It features an adult tournament and open play for kids.
“We entered a team in the tournament last year. People had so much fun and kept talking about it, so we decided it needed to carry on,” Geragosian said.
South Ann Arbor Street will be closed between Michigan Avenue and Henry Street between 1 and 8 p.m.
From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., the broomball rink will be open for families who want to bring their kids down to swing a broom around.
From 3:30 to 7 p.m., the adult tournament takes place. The tournament is a battle for downtown supremacy – open to local restaurants, businesses and organizations. The winner of the tournament will win possession of a trophy for a year.
People who want to play on a team should contact their favorite downtown business as soon as possible. Carrigan Café is one of several businesses is looking for players.
Geragosian said he hopes the event will turn into an annual event that downtown businesses anxiously await.
“I think it could turn into a friendly rivalry,” Geragosian said.
