Saline won the SEC Red swim and dive meet Friday and Saturday at Skyline. The Hornets finished with 666 points – easily defeating Skyline, 437, Pioneer, 427, and Huron, 354. Bedford finished with 149 points.
The Hornets started the day by taking the 200-yard medley. Amelia Hayes, Emma Loveland, Ann Bosinger and Emily Lang won in 1:45.91 – nearly five seconds faster than their preliminary time. Saline won the event by 1.09 seconds.
Senior Maddie Luther won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.57.
Saline’s youth movement on display in the 200-yard IM. Sophomore Kiersten Russell was third in 2:09.14. Hayes, a freshman, was fourth in 2:08.71. Emma Loveland was sixth in 2:12.76. Freshman Carolina Cline won the consolation heat.
Junior Johanna Jorgenson led a Hornet 1-2-3 finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Jorgenson won in 23.69 seconds. Laing, a senior, was second in 24.77 seconds. Senior Anna Olsen was third in 24.85 seconds. Bosinger, a sophomore, was fifth in 25 seconds.
Paige Gidley was the top Hornet diver. She was fifth with 348 points. Megan Mulligan was sixth with 339.95 points. Gabriella Richards was seventh (322.2) and Morgan Comfort was eighth (278.5)/
Back in the pool, Paige Wilson took second in the 100-yard fly, finishing in 59.01 seconds, only .08 seconds behind the winner from Pioneer. Allison Ploutz-Snyder was sixth in 1:00.73 and Samantha Graden was seventh in 1:00.79.
Jorgenson’s second individual victory came in the 100-yard freestyle, which she won in 51.11 seconds. Laing was fourth in 54.01 seconds. Olsen was seventh in 54.64 seconds.
Luther was Saline’s top swimmer in the 500-yard freestyle. She was second in 4:57.23. Kelsey Robinson, a senior, was fifth in 5:19.23. Johanna Ehrman was seventh in 5:22.98 and Ploutz-Snyder was eighth in 5:28.36.
Saline’s second relay victory came in the 200-yard freestyle, which the Hornets won by 1.4 seconds. Laing, Bosinger, Luther and Jorgenson won the race in 1:37.46.
Saline placed four swimmers in the top eight in the 100-yard backstroke. Amelia Hayes was second in 56.16 seconds. Russell was third in 58.57 seconds. Senior Riley Jones was fifth in 1:00.61. Graden was seventh in 1:02.44.
Junior Emma Loveland won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.68. Madison Miller was fourth in 1:07.24 while Lauryn Kruse was eighth in 1:09.57.
Saline finished the meet by winning the third relay – the 400-yard free. The Hornets won in 3:29.47 – a little more than one second faster than Skyline. Swimming for the Hornets were Luther, Russell, Hayes and Jorgensson.
