Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild Plans 2019 Trip to England, Wales and Saline, Scotland
On July 4, 1966, Saline became a sister city in the People-to-People Program established by President Eisenhower with the Town of Brecon, Wales. The Saline-Brecon twinning was the first sister city relationship between U.S. and Wales towns.
The Saline-Brecon Friendship Guild, Saline’s Sister City citizen group, is excited to invite you to tour England, Wales, and Scotland May 2-15, 2019 which will mark Saline’s 53rd year of its twinning with Brecon, Wales. Brecon has hosted many people from Saline since 1966 including Musical Youth International, Saline High School Marching Band, Saline Big Band, Measure for Measure, Saline Fiddler’s Philharmonic, Saline’s youth soccer team. Saline has hosted Brecon’s Cathedral Choir, Brecon High School Choir, Aberhonddhu Men’s Choir, Brecon’s youth soccer team along with many Brecon citizens and Brecon city officials.
This tour will include a stop at Stonehenge (world famous stone circles, identifying ancient times), and a three-night stay at the Castle Hotel in Brecon, Wales, with an opportunity to visit with already established friends and make new friends.
The trip will then take us to Portmeirion. The bus will continue to Porthmadog where the group will board a train to tour the Welsh Highlands and arrive at Caernafon. The tour will continue for an overnight in Chester (a walled city). After departure from Chester to Lakeside the group will cruise to Bowness to visit the Beatrix Potter attraction before heading for Edinburgh, Scotland.
Besides exploring Edinburgh, a side trip to Saline, Scotland, and St. Andrews is planned. A “Hop On-Hop Off” bus tour will make it convenient for travelers to enjoy Edinburgh. After three nights in Edinburgh the tour will continue to York, where the famous “Shambles” is located.
After an overnight in York we will stop at Sherwood Forrest along with a stop in Stratford-on-Avon (Shakespeare’s city) on the way to London. The tour will end in London (3 nights) for a tour of the city, “Hop On-Hop Off” bus, a group “High Tea” and an opportunity to explore the city at your leisure (i.e. Tower of London, viewing of the Crown Jewels, theatre, etc.) before returning home.
It will be a fun, exciting tour and an opportunity for the Saline citizens to explore parts of England and Scotland and provides a special opportunity to visit Saline’s sister city, Brecon. The tour number is expected to be 25 people (maximum of 30). For more information, contact Jim Roth at 734-429-4063 or e-mail: roth@bignet.net before October 6th.
