Saline City Council agreed to extend the contracts of City Manager Todd Campbell and Police Chief Jerrod Hart at Monday's meeting.
Campbell, city manager since 2008, will be paid $128,009 - up from $124,877 last year and $121,841 the previous year. Campbell will receive fringe benefits common to other city staff plus a $4,500 car allowance and a $1,000 contribution to his retirement account in lieu of a merit increase.
Police Chief Jerrod Hart will earn $97,160, a city vehicle, a MERS hybird pension plan and fringe benefits common to other city staff.
Hart's predecessor, Larry Hrinik, was making $110,258 when he retired last year.
City Council voted 7-0 to approve Hart's contract.
Council voted 6-1 to approve Campbell's contract. Campbell's evaluation was discussed by city council in closed session at the June 18 meeting.
Council did not discuss the performance of Campbell or Hart when addressing these matters Monday.
Reached after the meeting, Mayor Marl expressed satisfaction with the work of Campbell and Hart.
"I understand these are difficult and sometimes challenging positions. I appreciate their service to this community and, overall, I'm very satisfied with their performance," Marl said.
Following the meeting, Councillor Christen Mitchell, the lone dissenter on Campbell's contract, explained her vote.
"I'm grateful for all that Mr. Campbell has done for the city. At the same time, our wastewater treatment plant remains an urgent concern among other issues. My vote reflects community feedback over the past year and a half of listening and meeting with residents and business owners,” Mitchell said.
As we noticed the rapid deterioration and indentation of the road from all of this truck traffic, which presumably will only get worse as the weather and road surface gets warmer, we have wondered just who is responsible for the cost to repair/replace these roads?
