The Saline Area Historical Society presents its monthly educational program at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Saline District Library's Brecon Room.
Frank Butwin will present about General "Mad" Anthony Wayne, who dispatched a force to Ohio to establish Fort Recovery as a base of operations, at the exact location of St. Clair's Defeat. The provocative fort became a magnet for military skirmishes in the summer of 1794. Wayne's army continued northward, building strategically defensive forts ahead of the main force. On August 3, 1794, a tree fell on Wayne's tent. He survived, but was rendered unconscious. By the next day, he had recovered sufficiently to resume the march to the newly built Fort Defiance.[12] On August 20, 1794, Wayne mounted an assault on the Indian confederacy at the Battle of Fallen Timbers, in modern Maumee, Ohio (just south of present-day Toledo), which was a decisive victory for the U.S. forces, ending the war. Wayne then continued to Kekionga, where he oversaw the construction of Fort Wayne.
Butwin, of Perrysburg, Ohio, portrays General "Mad" Anthony Wayne. The power point presentation talks about the Life and Times of Anthony Wayne and includes his family ancestry, days as a schoolboy, association with Ben Franklin, work as a surveyor, Revolutionary War military career, and the campaign culminating in the Battle of the Fallen Timbers. The talk will explain Wayne's death, burials, legacy, character traits, "madness", and legacy. Most importantly, Mr Butwin will discuss, the significant impact that Anthony Wayne had on the future of the United States, and especially what we now call the Midwest, the old Northwest Territory.
Frank also portrays Francis Scott Key (author of the current Star Spangled Banner National Anthem) and Major Amos Spafford (founder of Cleveland and Perrysburgh).
He is also well known for re-enacting a War of 1812 soldier, future president John Tyler, and others. Frank actively serves on the boards of the Perrysburg Area Historical Museum, the Maumee Valley Heritage Corridor, and the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Preservation Commission. Mr Butwin holds degrees in Chemistry and is the R&D Director of a Michigan chemical company.
Given all the angst, mistrust, innuendo, as well as apparent desire by some council members to have specific shortcoming of some of the other candidates as understood by the Committee put on public display, were I one of the other candidates still in the running, I would be giving serious consideration to saying "th
Wow. Ali has definitely drank the Marl Kool Aid. Very ironic that any time Marl is questioned you supply unwavering support for the Mayor regardless of the facts. Curious how your rhetoric sounds exactly like his 🤔
Oh goodness. It is not a matter of supporting or not supporting Marl. It is a matter of not supporting those who engage in unfounded and unsupported attacks and fuel the fans of controversy and division with unfounded attacks and innuendo. Unfortunately, there is so much of that garbage going on at the Federal le

I am confused about two references in the article referring to the candidates to be put forth and to the potential motion at Monday's meeting as "Mayor Marl's" selected candidates. These is a committee comprised of several members including members of City Council that was charged with and that did narrow the selec
In the live interview following the closed session, Mayor Marl actually addressed the candidates as “his choices;” stating that council “agreed with him.” Tran did repeat those words back to Marl for clarification and Mark said it again.
This whole thing smells and of course our “transparent” (not) mayor is again in the thick of it.
Disgusting. What has happened to the city I was born and raised in?🤬
It is expressing its displeasure with the current administration. Which is never “disgusting.” Peaceful protests are an essential freedom and absolute right.
