Glenda Sneed, 59, passed away peacefully at her home in Ann Arbor on October 8, 2017.
Glenda was born March 24, 1958 to the late James and Rita Sneed in Astoria, Oregon. Glenda grew up in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated from David Carter High School. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from DeVry University. She later completed graduate studies in Medical and Social Anthropology at Howard University and Wayne State University, where she earned a Master’s Degree. Glenda had a passion for serving others and improving their emotional and physical health.
For over 20 years, she worked in the area of community health at Detroit’s Karmanos Cancer Institute and at the University of Michigan Program for Multicultural Health. She worked tirelessly developing programs, workshops, and seminars promoting health and well-being for at-risk students, elderly, ethnic minorities, and other under-resourced communities.
Glenda is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Rubin Patterson of Silver Spring, MD, her daughter Sharlyndra (Deryl) Brown of North Richland Hills, TX, her brother Vincent (Rosalind) Sneed of Mesquite, TX, her nephew Ryan (Ashley) Sneed of Dallas, TX and grand-niece, Arianna Sneed of Dallas, TX. A Memorial Service will be held in honor of Glenda Sneed at the African American Museum located at 3536 Grand Avenue, Dallas, TX 75210 on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. The family is establishing a Glenda Sneed Fellowship at Howard University and Scholarship at David W. Carter High School in Dallas, TX. These scholarships will support students with interests in professions in health and the environment. Donations can be mailed to P.O.
