The Saline High School girls water polo tournament opened Michigan Water Polo Association Championships by defeating West Ottawa, 14-3, Friday.
Cassie Anderson scored seven goals, including Saline’s first three goals, to lead the Hornets. Maddie Murphy scored four goals. Hope Smith, Sam Fitch and Jen Green also scored for Saline.
Saline advances to the state semifinal at 11:45 a.m.
Saline will play Hudsonville, who defeated Ann Arbor Huron, 16-6. The winner advances to the state championship to play against either Rockford or Okemos. The championship game is at 7:30 p.m., Saturday.
