Some of the Saline Area Schools districts’ top music students were honored at the Saline High School Collage Concert Friday.
- The Ben Hieber Award for Excellence was awarded to junior Dominic Dorset, eighth grade student Jolie Kretschmar, and fifth grade students Eileen Hutfles and Eveleyn Goerlitz. Dorset received a $1,000 scholarship, Kretschmar received a $500 scholarship and Hutfles and Goerlitz received a $250 scholarship. The scholarship was created by the Hieber family in honor of Ben Hieber, a great young student musician who died in 2015.
- The David A. Wolter Community Service Award was presented to percussionist Evan Miller, who plays drums in for several bands, in and out of school. The new award is name for long-time Saline band director David Wolter, who later founded the Saline Big Band and is a director in the New Horizons band.
- The John Philip Sousa Award was presented to Michael Wolf.
- The National School Orchestra Award was presented to Nicholas Wood.
- The Band Service Award was presented to Cam Duce.
- The Outstanding Musician Award for Band was presented to Jack Dodson, Andy Early, Hannah Jones and Trevor Kohler.
- The Outstanding Musician Award for Orchestra was presented to Claire Conzelmann.
- The Patty Mills Citizenship/Spirit Award was presented to Robert Amori.
- The Michelle Hall, Renee Dabbs Citizenship/Spirit Award was presented to Hanna Benedek.
- The Louis Armstrong Jazz Award was presented to Evan Miller.
- The Robert Howard Service Award was presented to Christopher Steinert
