Jesse Daniel Tolbert, the suspect arrested after a home invasion and assault in Lodi Township early Friday morning, was arraigned on three charges in Washtenaw 14A District Court Saturday. Tolbert, 21, is a resident of Saline.

Tolbert was arraigned on charges of first degree home invasion, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and malicious destruction of property. All are felony charges.

Tolbert remains in custody. A cash/surety bond was set at $100,000.

Tolbert is accused of breaking into a home on the 5700 block of Shelly Court. He allegedly assaulted a 56-year-old female who lived at the home. An officer from the Saline Police Department found Tolbert hiding in bushes near the home and Tolbert was arrested.

According to the Michigan State Police, troopers were dispatched to the area of Shelly Court and Weber Road for reports of a man pounding on doors just before 4 a.m. The victim was on the phone with dispatch when a suspect entered the home and contact was lost, according to a press release issued by Michigan State Police Monday.

The woman was transported in serious condition to Saint Joseph-Mercy Hospital. Michigan State Police said Monday the victim is still in hospital recovering from injuries that are not life-threatening.

Tolbert has a May 25 court date scheduled for a probable cause conference. A preliminary exam is set for June 1.
