Saline 150: Celebration Continues with Historic Homes Tour & Tea

Saline’s Sesquicentennial celebration continues with a “Historic Homes Tour & Tea,”on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m.,  This is a rare opportunity to enter some of the community’s most celebrated historic private homes to admire design details treasured by families for generations but seldom seen by visitors. In addition to the historic homes featured on this tour, ticket holders will also enjoy an intimate Traditional Tea with Saline Historian Bob Lane on hand for questions and historical stories.

Ticket holders will feel as if they’ve stepped back in time as they enjoy afternoon Tea at the Annin-Peoples House. This historic home, in the Italianate style from 1859, will be transformed into an elegant Tea Room, showcasing delicate china and unique Saline artifacts. To complement the 19th century atmosphere, guests will be greeted by live classical music and a few of the hosts will even be dressed in period attire! A lovely Tea menu of traditional and herbal teas will be served with delicate tea sandwiches and an assortment of miniature tea pastries from sponsors Brewed Awakenings and Carrigan Cafe.

Tickets for the “Historic Homes Tour & Tea” are $25 and are available now through October 13th at the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce office (M-Th,9am-4pm; 141 E. Michigan Ave, Saline). Each ticket includes a seating for Tea, starting promptly at either 1:00pm or 3:00pm, plus entrance to the six historic homes on the tour. There are a limited number of tickets available and they are expected to sell out quickly.

• John Henry Barr House - 1873 (275 S. Ann Arbor St.

• William Barr House - 1895 (550 S. Ann Arbor St.)

• Layher House - 1870 (320 N. Ann Arbor St.)

• Lambarth House – 1922 (213 S. Ann Arbor St.)

The Historic Homes Tour & Tea offers an engaging look into Saline’s history and architecture, featuring six private, historic homes of distinctive American architectural styles such as Italianate, Victorian Second Empire, Folk Victorian, Queen Anne and Craftsman. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore each home’s unique and original features and learn about the prominent Saline townspeople there.
