Dragon Wagon headlines Friday's performances at the Saline Celtic Festival

The Ann-Arbor based band Dragon Wagon will headline Friday evening performances at the Saline Celtic Festival, when activities at Mill Pond Park on July 8 will run from 5 p.m. to midnight and cost $5 at the gate.The Diggers will play at 6 p.m., followed by Nessa at 8 p.m., and Dragon Wagon takes to the Red Dragon Stage at 10 p.m.

Gaelic football games get under way at 6 p.m. with the Detroit Harps Youth League scrimmage, followed by a game featuring the Detroit Wolfetones team at 7:30 p.m.

The evening includes workshops in English/contra dance, step dance, fiddle, tin whistle, bodhran, Celtic jam seisun, and Ceili dance, and a performance by members of the Ring of Steel Action Theatre and Stunt Troupe. The Mastodon Celtic Corporate Challenge starts at 6:30 p.m.

The all-day festival on Saturday, July 9 runs from 10 a.m. to midnight, with opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. Mill Pond Park will be alive with Celtic music and dance, pipe bands, ancient athletics games, Highland dance competitions, living history re-enactors, jousters, sword play and fencing, Wee Folks Island activities, sheep herding, Millie the Mill Pond Monster, clans, merchants, and much more. Headliner bands are the Corktown Popes, Stone Clover, Bill Grogan’s Goat, and Equinox, with Brother Crowe, Peet in the Creel, Roane, Finvarra’s Wren, Blue Caledonia, and Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic.

Tickets at the gate on Saturday are $5 for ages 13-17, $15 for adults, ($10 online and groups of 10 $80 online), and $10 for ages 65 and up. Ages 12 and under and active military, free.  Pre-event tickets also are available for $10 for adults at Saline City Hall, 100 N. Harris St., this week. Parking on both days is at Liberty and Middle schools and free shuttle buses will run between the parking area and the festival site continuously on Friday evening and all day and evening Saturday.
