Saline Starts Run Toward 17th Straight SEC Title in Hornet Style

Abby Rentschler was the fastest girl in the conference, finishing in 18:52, to lead the Hornets to what was nearly a perfect score. Rentschler was followed in by Elianna Shwayder (2nd, 19:23), Alyssa Cummings (3rd, 19:30) and Gloria Park (4th, 19:30). Freshman Hannah Cummings nearly caught a Huron runner for fifth, but settled for 6th (19:53). Saline finished with 16 points, a single point away from the magical score of 15.
Huron was second with 81 points.
Saline finished with seven of the top nine runners and 10 of the top 15 runners in the 101-girl race.
Gillian Walter (8th, 20:02), Haleigh Cummings (9th, 20:08), Lauren Green (11th, 20:15), Kelly Hall (12th, 20:23) and Lillie Phelps (15th, 20:44) rounded out Saline's top 10. Coach Mike Smith noted Phelps would have been the top runner for eight of the other teams.
Perfect 15 for JV Girls
The junior varsity team managed the perfect score of 15 by sweeping the top five spots.
Lindsay Walter won the junior varsity race in 21:01. Saline's junior varsity team took the top seven places in the race. After Walter were Anna Fedoronko, Mara VanSickle, Kenny Kise, Emily Reyst, Danielle Fillmore and Alexa Reyst.
