Leveraging Dollars To Do The Most For Students

Laura Anderson and Katie Silberstein

K-12 education is a significant public investment. Each year more than $600B are spent in our public schools across the country. How can we leverage those investments to do the most for students? In this lecture, Edunomics Lab will share a variety of strategies and tools education leaders and advocates can use to examine spending and outcomes in order to drive productive conversations around improving equitable resource allocations and schooling.

Laura Anderson is the Associate Director of the Edunomics Lab. Laura manages center operations, leads research and special projects as well as training endeavors. Previously, Laura was an Associate Program Officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation on grant and project management for US Programs. She also worked on multimillion dollar capital campaigns and executed national fundraising campaigns for Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She earned her B.A. in Communications from Washington State University.

Katie Silberstein is the Strategic Projects Lead with Edunomics Lab. Her work explores trends in districts' ESSER spending and the relationship between school spending and outcomes. Katie serves as Treasurer of the Board for Why Not You Academy, a charter school in Washington. Prior, Katie taught in New York City elementary schools. Katie earned her M.Ed in Policy and Leadership from the University of Washington and a B.A. in Psychology from Bates College.  $10 at the door.
