Growing Jack Frost

Ice forms in dendritic (tree-like) patterns on glass surfaces when "Jack Frost" visits on cold winter nights. Nature is full of dendritic patterns, which are described by fractal geometry. Such patterns are seen in actual plant growth, snowflakes and alluvial fans (the triangle-shaped branching patterns of sediments shaped by flowing water).
