The prestigious P.E.O. STAR Scholarship in the amount of $2,500 for the 2019-2020 academic year, was presented to Hope London, a senior at Otsego High School in Bowling Green, Ohio. There were 2,282 applicants and only 880 recipients chosen. The state of Ohio had a limited number of 26 winning applicants.
Hope is the daughter of Robert and Rachael London of Bowling Green and Granddaughter of Robert and Catherine London of Saline, Michigan. Bowling Green State University is Hope's choice to attend in the fall. Hope was recommended for this scholarship by P.E.O. Chapter H of Milan, Michigan.
The P.E.O. STAR Scholarship is a $2,500 scholarship based on excellence in leadership, extracurricular activities, community service, academics and potential for future success. The program is open to young women who are citizens or legal permanent residents of the United States or Canada and who are graduating high school seniors at the time of application. A student must be recommended by a P.E.O. chapter.
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is an international philanthropic and educational organization which promotes increased educational opportunities for women. There are nearly 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with almost 250,000 initiated members. P.E.O. has provided over $366 million in financial assistance to more than 113,000 young ladies. The P.E.O. International Chapter owns and operates Cottey College, a fully accredited, private liberal arts and sciences college for women in Nevada, Missouri. Cottey College is a debt-free institution and was ranked #2 in 2019 for Best Colleges in the Midwest. (The only nonsectarian college in the country solely owned, operated and supported by women.)
