Construction Halts at Thorncrest Apartment Repair

Work has halted on construction a Thorncrest Apartments nearly a year after a roof collapse displaced residents of eight apartments at 266 Clark Street.

Tony Nam, representative of Nam Investments, LLC, said work has stopped due to a dispute with two parties involved in the repair. Nam said he couldn't elaborate on the dispute but that he hoped work would begin soon.

"Sometimes when other parties are involved you feel helpless. But I am a positive person and I am very hopeful work will resume soon," Nam said.

Last June workers were putting a new roof on the building when, apparently, the weight of shingles stacked on the roof caused the roof to collapse. There were no injuries.

Nam said ownership has doubled down on investing in the apartment complex recently, changing sliding glass doors, replacing four roofs, installing lighting, cutting away branches and more. He said the next phase of improvement includes exterior painting and outdoor work, including improvements to patios and balconies.

"We're in this for the long haul," Nam said.

He said the interiors of apartments have also been upgraded, with new appliances and cabinets.

"We want a safer, nicer community for our residents. We want to attract people to the apartment complex with that community aspect," Nam said.

Including the eight units condemned until work is complete, there are 120 apartments at Thorncrest.
