Amanda Coy, Saline High School graduate and sophomore at Purdue University Honors College was selected as the 31st Golden Girl for Purdue University’s All-American Band. She follows a long-standing tradition of elite twirlers in this role.  Purdue University’s Golden Girl ranks among the nation’s best twirlers at the top of her art form. Recognized nationally for her unique talents, this coveted position has roots going back to the early history of Purdue Bands in 1954 when Lenny Dawson, star Boilermaker quarterback, was named “Golden Boy.” The band’s star twirler of course earned the title “Golden Girl.”

Coy is also Miss Purdue University 2020 and will represent Purdue at the Miss Indiana Competition a state affiliate for Miss America.  Twirling since the age of 3-years old with the Saline Twirlettes, Amanda is a member of Team USA and will join her team at the National Baton Twirling Association World’s in the Netherlands in April.  She has achieved more than 130 local, state, and national titles.  Recently back from Twirl Mania, an international baton twirling competition at Disney World, Coy joined with her Purdue Twirling teammates and brought home a Collegiate Classic Team championship, an Advanced Duet Championship with current Golden Girl #30 Katie Schleis and Mousecars for the highest points in the Duet Division, and placed top 4 out of more than 50 collegiate twirlers across the Country for the Collegiate Classic.  Coy was the recipient of the Shining Star Award and Scholarship for entertainment value of her routine.

Amanda is very active on Purdue’s Campus as a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Timmy Global Health and student teacher of goals program for Timmy that helps area schools learn about healthy choices for food and exercise.  Her hometown knows her well as the former Miss Saline 2017. She is also active in the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) Michigan Chapter having reached 7,000 youth in presentation as a youth spokesperson on asthma awareness and she has raised $20,000 for the State Charity.  Last spring, she interned for the CEO of AAFA and worked on legislation impacting asthmatics on Capital Hill in Washington.  Coy hopes to complete her degree in Premed and become a neurosurgeon specializing in Pediatrics.
