Robert Leroy Stapleton of Milan, Mich., age 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his home.
He was born on March 27, 1928 in Lexington, MO, the son of Leroy and Dorothy (Crowe) Stapleton. On August 21, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri, he married Bette June Stapleton and she preceded him in death on July 14, 2009. Survivors include his children Diane Miller, Brenda Argall, Karen Waitz, Carole (Russ) Copus, and Vickie (David) Thatcher. Other survivors include his grandchildren Kelsey Miller, Brett Miller, Kyle Waitz, Zach Waitz, Robert Copus, Carina Eldred, Jessica Miilu, and Brian Hill, and great-grandchildren Harper Miller, Jasmine Miilu, Malachi Miilu, Tommy Miilu, Aurora Eldred, and Elijah Eldred. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Danny Stapleton, Joyce Barton, and Beverly Aker.
Robert served as a military policeman in Germany during the Korean War. For most of his life he worked as a video television engineer, often working at public sports events such as the Detroit Tigers and University of Michigan football games. He even had the opportunity to travel to Barcelona, Spain to work during the Olympic Games.
He was a member and elder of the Community of Christ Church. Among the many ministries he performed in the church, he and his wife Bette served as camp pastors and counselors in many children’s camps. He also worked in Camp Quality and Highland Park Daycamp Summer Program. Robert loved to hunt, fish, golf, camp, and take pictures and videos. He dearly loved and adored his daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
The family would especially like to extend gratitude to the staff at Heartland Hospice of Ann Arbor, MI for their care. Visitation will take place on Monday, March 18, 2019 from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service at 1:00 P.M. at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline. John Jones and Justin Powell will officiate. Military Honors will be held under the auspices of the Washtenaw County Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will follow in the Marble Park Cemetery in Milan, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Wounded Warriors and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
