AGENDA: Saline Board of Education Swears in New Trustees, Elects Officers Tuesday

Trustees Jennifer Steben and Susan Estep will be sworn in as The Saline Area Schools Board of Education meets for the first time in 2019 at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty School Board Room. Both were elected in the November general election.

The board will also elect officers, consider three action items and have in two scheduled discussions.

Superintendent Scot Graden is presenting a proposal to accept Clark Construction's price increase bond project work. Clark Construction is managing the bond projects for the district. GMB Architecture and Engineering produced construction documents for Saline Middle School renovations  showing a price increase of $2.4 million, bringing the total cost of Clark Construction's work to $29.4 million.

The board will also consider appointing Bari Livsey and Chris Michalak as the district’s representatives on the City of Saline’s Local Development Finance Authority.

The other action item is to approve recording secretary Patti Waltz, newly elected board secretary and Superintendent Graden as designees for posting legal notices.

Under discussion items, the board will hear an update on efforts to improve diversity, equity and inclusion. Graden will also update the board on the second series of bond projects.

In the Human Resources Department, the district has accepted the resignation of Sherry Farkas, transportation monitor, and Kimberly Pearsall, paraeducator at Saline High School. Emily Burke, Liberty School, Leif Larsen, Saline High School, and Tonisha Vernon, Saline Middle School, have been hired as paraeducators. Stephanie Tandy has been hired as secretary at Heritage Middle School and Vickie Webb was hired as a transportation monitor.
