Robert Walter Cook died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 at the age of 87. He was ready.
Bob was a lifelong Saline and Saline Township resident, born March 6, 1931 to Hazel & Walter Cook. He was very neighborly and dedicated to serving his community with care.
Having lost his father at a young age, he and his siblings (George, James, & Sally) were raised by Hazel, Alli Ormsby (their dedicated nanny), and the people of Saline.
Bob graduated from Saline High School and Michigan State University. Having been a member of the ROTC in college, he went on to serve the US Army, but not before he married his high school sweetheart, Mabel Marie Gleason in 1954.
Bob and Mabel enjoyed 52 years together, raising four children, remodeling, expanding and improving Mabel’s family home on Willow Road. Besides fishing, he loved everything about gentleman farm life, and relished sharing it all with his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews and all of their friends.
Bob had a long career in food service, and retired from Detroit Edison, having overseen all of the dining facilities that served the employees, from the executive facilities to the linemen and support staff. He also served Saline Township in many capacities including Township Supervisor. As one co-worker/friend mentioned “he managed people in a way that they never knew they were being managed”.
Bob was preceded in death by his parent, his wife Mabel, his eldest son Robert Davis Cook, his brothers George and James, and many friends and relatives.
He is survived by his children: Lauren Ann Cook, and her two sons Alex and Andreas; Lisa Marie Cook (partner Charles R. Marston, Jr) and her daughter Zoe and son Zachary; John Christian Cook (wife Jocelyn) and their daughter Julia. He is also survived by his sister Sally, his friends and neighbors on Willow Road, and dear friend Susan Keezer.
A memorial service will be planned for the spring, where his children will look forward to seeing all of friends and neighbors to celebrate his beautiful and kind life.
“See you around the Campus” Dad!
