Saline's road to Ford Field starts at Hornet Stadium, where the Hornets open the playoffs at 1 p.m., Saturday, against Kalamazoo Central.
It will be Saline's first Saturday afternoon game since 2014, when the Hornets defeated Detroit Cass Tech at Troy High School to advance to the state championship game.
Saline Athletic Director Andrew Parrish said Saline wanted to play Friday night, but Saline and Kalamazoo Central couldn't come to an agreement.
According to an MHSAA rule, unless teams agree to a different time, district and regional games will be scheduled at 7 or 7:30 p.m. Friday, or 1, 7 or 7:30 p.m., Saturday. But a second part of the rule says that if the distance between the schools is over 75 miles and no agreement is reached, the game must be played Saturday afternoon.
Interestingly, Brighton and East Kentwood, the other two teams in this district, will also play at 1 p.m., Saturday.
