Saline's Emergency Workers Respond to 6 Crashes in 3 Days

Emergency responders have been busy in the City of Saline.

The Saline Police Department responded to six crashes Sept. 4-6 – sending four people to hospital for treatment of injuries that are non life-threatening.

A crash Wednesday afternoon sent three people to the hospital and tied up traffic on Michigan Avenue at rush hour.

At 4:48 p.m., a 41-year-old Onsted woman was driving a Chevrolet Impala carrying passengers who were six and three years old. According to police, she disregarded a traffic signal and turned left on to Michigan. Her vehicle was struck by an east-bound van driven by a 29-year-old Ypsilanti man who had the green light. All three occupants of the Impala were transported to the hospital. Fire Chief Craig Hoeft said none of the injuries were life-threatening. The crash tied up traffic for about an hour as emergency workers treated the patients and cleaned up the mess on Michigan Avenue. With nowhere else to go, traffic spilled on to Henry, McKay and Russell streets.

Earlier that day, police and fire responded to a hit and run at Michigan Avenue and Hall Street at around 7:30 a.m.  A 61-year-old Fort Meyers, Fla., woman was west on Michigan Avenue was she was struck from behind as she slowed for traffic. The at-fault driver, a male, fled from the scene. There were no reported injuries.

Also on Wednesday, police responded to the scene of a crash at 12:18 p.m. after a west-bound vehicle driven by a 67-year-old San Jose, Calif., woman changed lanes and struck a vehicle driven by a 60-year-old Adrian woman. There were no injuries.

It was one of four crashes Wednesday. As previously reported, a 15-year-old Saline male operating a moped was struck at the intersection of Old Creek Drive, Maple Road and Michigan Avenue. He was northbound, going from Old Creek to Maple, when he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old Saline woman who made an improper left turn from Maple on to Michigan. The driver of moped was transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Thursday morning, a 17-year-old Saline woman failed to stop for traffic and rear ended the vehicle driven by a 32-year-old Ypsilanti woman who was carrying a two-year-old child. The child was in proper restraints and there were no injuries.

On Tuesday, a 19-year-old Saline woman failed to yield when pulling off Echo Court on to Maple Road and she struck a southbound vehicle driven by a 47-year-old Saline woman.
