City Extends Rec Center Vending Machine Agreement With Young Adult Program

The City of Saline has renewed the Rec Center’s vending service agreement with the Saline Area Schools District for three years.

The district’s Young Adult Program, which helps students with special needs transition to adulthood, has operated the Rec Center’s vending machines for eight years.

Saline Parks and Recreation Director Carla Scruggs enthusiastically recommended the city extend its agreement with the Young Adult program.

“I call it a triple win,” Scruggs said. “It’s great work experience and job training for the students. It’s important revenue for the program, so the schools benefit. And our customers at the Rec Center benefit because the students provide excellent service. Our vending machines are always full. If we have any problems, they respond in 24 hours or less.”

Scruggs said Rec Center customers have nothing but good things to say about the way the vending machines are serviced. She said the arrangement also keeps money in the community and the schools.

Saline Area Schools pays the city of Saline 25 percent commission, or about $2,000 a year, on its vending machine sales. According to the memo from Scruggs to city council, Saline Area Schools officials are eager to continue the arrangement. Young Adult Program students are also participants in Rec Center programs, Scruggs wrote in the memo.

Council voted 7-0 to extend the contract.
