Broomball returns to South Ann Arbor Street during the annual Winterfest event Jan. 27.
The Canadian sport is usually played in a hockey rink or on ice. Players use “brooms” to shoot a ball past the goalie into the net.
This year’s broomball activities offers fun for all age groups.
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., it’s “open broomball,” so anyone of any age is welcome to pick up a broom and start passing and shooting.
The young adult challenge takes place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Young adults, ages 14-17, will compete in a four-team tournament.
The adult team tournament, ages 18 and up, will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Roster size is unlimited, but teams can only use five players at a time. There must be at least two women on the court at any given time.
Each game consists of two 10-minute halves and a five-minute halftime.
The goal is friendly competition and for everyone to have fun while staying safe. Rules include:
No checking
No high sticking
No checking, slashing or roughing.
No kicking the ball (though you can use your foot to stop the ball).
Players who violate the rules will be penalized for two minutes. Continued rough play can result in ejection.
Brooms are provided. Players can bring their own safety gear, like pads or helmets.

As we noticed the rapid deterioration and indentation of the road from all of this truck traffic, which presumably will only get worse as the weather and road surface gets warmer, we have wondered just who is responsible for the cost to repair/replace these roads?
Did anyone ask the nearby residents if they want a party palace in their neighborhood? Traffic, parking, crowds, trash, noise: was any of this considered when making this decision?
Patchy rain nearby, with a high of 64 and low of 35 degrees. Sunny in the morning, patchy rain nearby in the afternoon and evening, clear overnight.
So the senior citizens and the kids that decided not to go to work are doing what? Protesting what? Are they updet that KAMALA was REJECTED? Then let them have FREE CHEESE.
You are so easily triggered you ancient snowflake. Calm down. Get off the internet, stop listening to podcasts. Go touch grass. Your king lied to you, that’s very obvious at this point. Now, you just seem to be lying to yourself.
Tom you sound like your disillusioned by the liberal media are you admiting that your "wrong" I sense anger in your statement? What is it that you are AFRAID of? Is VOTE ID against your parties wish LIST?
Enjoy the senior parade!
