An Interview With Pleasant Ridge Student Claire Logozzo

Claire Logozzo, the eight-year-old daughter of Bill and Paulina Logozzo, loves learning at Pleasant Ridge Elementary in Saline.

“I love all the fun things we get to do,” she said.

A third grade student taught by Mrs. Welzbacker. Claire is a girl of many interests, so she loves all the “specials” classes.

“Art, Spanish, media, gym and music,” Claire said.

Asked by her mom to pick one, Claire decided to combine two classes into one: Musical media.

“In music class we learn how to sing. Sometimes we learn songs in different languages. Sometimes we play games,” Claire said.

A few weeks ago, Claire and her classmates made “raps” about following Pleasant Ridge’s “High 5” rules.

“We used the raps to teach the rules to the Young 5s,” Claire said.

Five different classes rapped for the young students about the five school rules. Her class rapped about the rule known as “respond when spoken to.”

“There were three people in my group – me and two other kids. And we made up a rap. And then we made up motions for it,” Claire said. “We had to make a rhythm and decide how to sing it.”

As much as Claire loves the specials, she also loves lunch and recess. On a busy day in the Pleasant Ridge cafeteria, Claire has her favorite lunch: a cheese and salami sandwich.

She also loves reading. She’s started a series of books about the adventures of Geronimo Stilton.

“This is a funny fact about the books. The author’s name is Geronimo Stilton and the main character’s name is Geronimo Stilton,” Claire said.

She’s read 10 of the books so far and thinks there are another 50 in the series.

Claire's favorite song is “HandClap” by Fitz and the Tantrums.

Her favorite color changes from day to day.

“Usually, it’s a neon color,” Logozzo said. “Neon is happy and bright and colorful.”

Next year, Claire graduates to Heritage Elementary School. She admitted to being a little nervous about the move. But something about Claire’s articulate and spirited answers suggest she’s got nothing to worry about.
