SOCCER; Stavros Scores Only Goal as Saline Advances to District Championship

Saline senior Alyssa Stavros scored the game's only goal as Saline defeated Pioneer in the district semifinal at Saline High School Thursday.

Saline advances to the district championship game at 7 p.m., Friday, at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets face Belleville.

The game's only goal came midway through the first half. Junior Tate Robison sent a cross from the left wing and Stavros played the ball up and over the goalie for the only goal.

Saline keeper Annika Udrys stopped both shots she faced. Saline directed more than 10 shots on the Pioneer goal.

Saline's victory avenges a loss to Pioneer in last year's district championship game.
