The Saline varsity girls lacrosse team won its first game of the season Tuesday, defeating  Bedford 11-5.

Saline improved to 1-3.

Anna Lechard scored four goals to pace the Saline attack. Quinn Alexis scored three goals. Hanah Allen scored two goals and Abby Morton and Grace Livesey each scored a goal.

Maddy Siedlik and Rebecca Caswell split time in goal.

Saline scored three goals in the opening 5:34 to take early control of the game. After Lechard opened scoring Allen scored two goals in 1:57 to give Saline a 3-0 lead. Alexis and Lechard scored to give Saline a 5-0 lead before Brighton tallied its first goal. Alexis, Lechard and Livesey scored for Saline before halftime. Bedford added a second goal. Saline led 8-2 at halftime.

“I thought our midfielders played especially well early in the first half. Kayleigh Riggs did a great job moving us up the field and our finishers finished,” Saline coach Eric Boyer said.

The Mules came out strong with three straight goals to start the second half. Meanwhile, the Hornets were a little snakebit at the other end of the field.

“I give Bedford credit. They frankly outworked us for ground balls for much of the night.,” Boyer said. “They worked hard and they showed speed in transition.”

Morton, who missed the first half prepping for a school fashion show, scored 10:37 into the half to end Bedford’s run and right the ship.

“Abby is a leader. We needed that goal and she stepped up and scored it. Just having her on the field and being vocal made the girls play better,” Boyer said.

Lechard and Alexis added goals for Saline, which held Bedford without a goal over the final 15 minutes.
